How to Become an IR Engineer in Malaysia

Malaysian IR Engineers must complete a registration process. Becoming registered is essential to establishing your engineering career. In fact, by Malaysian law, no one can use the "Ir" designation or work as a professional IR engineer until the registration is completed. The "Ir" in IR Engineer is an abbreviation for Ingenieur. Professional engineers in Malaysia apply the designation before their names. The "Ir" identifies them as engineers who meet the highest professional standards. The Board of Engineering Malaysia (BEM) oversees registration.

INSTRUCTION

1.Take high school courses in english, mathematics, physics and chemistry. Earn a high school diploma or its equivalent.

2.Study engineering at a college accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia. Examples of accredited colleges are the International Islamic University Malaysia, Monash University in Malyasia, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang. Contact the college for entry requirements. Earn a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty of your choice such as aerospace, biochemical, electronics or manufacturing.

3.Register as a graduate engineer. You can not work as engineer until you register with the Malaysia Board of Engineers. Submit application Form A. Include copies of your degree certificate, academic transcript and identity card.

4.Acquire professional work experience. Perform planning, designing, execution or management duties in the engineering field, conduct engineering research or teach a course in the engineering field. Work for a minimum of 3 years.

5.Register as a Professional engineer. Submit application Form B1 to the Malaysia Board of Engineers. Take and pass the Professional Assessment Examination (PAE). With the exam you undergo a professional interview and must write two essays. Any individual successfully completing the professional engineering registration requirements receives the "Ir" designation with his or her name such as Ir Jane Doe.
